About MFDC

  [ en Español ]

The Mexican Folk Dance Company of Chicago was founded in 1982 by, its present artistic directors and choreographers. As Chicago's oldest Mexican dance institution, MFDC has received countless recognitions and awards, has performed for three presidents and represented Mexico in the 1994 USA World Cup opening ceremony, as well as numerous national television performances, most notably at the 2009 Latin Grammy Awards.

The Mexican Folk Dance Company is Chicago's premier Mexican dance institution.

In recent years the company has received the distinction of performing with Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán at Disneyworld for UNIVISION's first Mariachi Festival; and in November 2003 shared the stage with major arts institutions such as the Joffrey Ballet, the Chicago Sinfonnietta and the Hubbard Street Dance Co. at the Inaugural Gala of Chicago's Harris Theater for Music and Dance at Millennium Park.

In July of 2006 Mr. and Mrs. Ovalle performed at the Smithsonian Institute's "Latino Chicago" Festival in Washington, D.C. In August 2007 and 2009, the company performed at the Festival of World Cultures in Dublin, Ireland. In February 2007 and 2008 MFDC had the privilege of performing with Mexican singing star Pepe Aguilar in UNIVISION's Premios lo Nuestro.

Most recently, in Early June 2008, the company and Sones de Mexico Ensemble Chicago were selected to participate in Mexico City's Canal Once (Channel 11) production "Del Otro Lado", held at The National Museum of Mexican Art. For six consecutive years, since 2002, the company has produced "La Noche del Son" An Evening of Mexican Soul, to wide acclaim. Most recently, in November 2009, the company performed with Juan Gabriel in Las Vegas at the Latin Grammys.

Fast costume changes, ringing music and festive dancing have characterized the Company's performances for four decades. An extensive repertoire presented in lavish costumes, worn by young, energetic dancers make MFDC's program an exciting, colorful, and educational experience.
